Charles Stangor

Dr. Charles Stangor

Charles Stangor is a professor emeritus in the Social, Decisional, and Organizational Sciences Specialty Area at the University of Maryland. He had also taught at the New School for Social Research, Michigan State University, and at the University of Tübingen in Germany. He received his BA from Beloit College in 1973 and his PhD from New York University in 1986. Dr. Stangor is the recipient of research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and from the National Science Foundation. He has published seven books and over 70 research articles and book chapters and has served as an associate editor of the European Journal of Social Psychology. He is a charter fellow of the Association for Psychological Science. He has served as the chair of the executive committee and as executive officer for the Society for Experimental Social Psychology. Dr. Stangor regularly taught Social Psychology, Research Methods, and at the graduate level, Fundamentals of Social Psychology and Group Processes. Dr. Stangor has served as Associate Chair in the psychology department, and has won the distinguished teaching award from the University of Maryland. Dr. Stangor’s research interests concerned the enhancement and assessment of academic achievement in higher education, with a particular focus on reducing educational achievement gaps between men and women and among ethnic groups.

Sue Frantz (MA, University of Kansas) is Emerita Professor of Psychology, Highline College and Affiliated Faculty, New Mexico State University and is a first-generation college student. She has taught psychology in community colleges since 1992 and was at Highline College for 22 years. Sue has served on several American Psychological Association (APA) boards and committees, and was proud to serve the members of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology as their 2018 president. In 2013, she was the inaugural recipient of the APA award for Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at a Two-Year College or Campus. In 2016, she received the highest award for the teaching of psychology—the Charles L. Brewer Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award. She presents nationally and internationally on the topics of educational technology and the pedagogy of psychology. She is co-author of FlatWorld’s Introduction to Psychology, Version 3.0 with Charles Stangor, and co-author with Doug Bernstein and Steve Chew of Teaching Psychology: A Step-by-Step Guide, Third Edition.
