Money, Banking, and Financial Institutions
A Contemporary Approach

v1.0 Robert Carbaugh

Acknowledgments

My story for writing this book began in 1973 when I taught money and banking as a graduate instructor at Colorado State University. I proceeded to teach this course at South Dakota State University, University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, and Central Washington University where I retired from teaching in 2022. When COVID-19 appeared, I found myself teaching online courses at home, and I had extra time to devote to research and writing. So I decided that the time had come to convert my money and banking lecture notes and class handouts into another textbook—I am also the author of International Economics, 18th edition (Cengage Learning) and Contemporary Economics, 8th edition (Routledge). My career as an economics textbook author has been a labor of love.

Many former students and faculty colleagues have shared their opinions and expertise regarding what constitutes an interesting and useful money and banking book. I am pleased to acknowledge those who provided helpful suggestions and, often, detailed reviews of my manuscript:

  1. Tom Daves, South Dakota State University

  2. Jim Egan, University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire

  3. Liang-Shing Fan, Colorado State University

  4. Koushik Ghosh, Central Washington University

  5. David Hedrick, Central Washington University
